I'm Now on the Menu

I am excited to announce that my inaugural column for the CHS Menu newsletter just hit subscribers’ inboxes. For this first outing, I reflect on everyone else’s reflections on the state of fine dining that were triggered by the announced closing of acclaimed Danish restaurant Noma.

If you’re a curious and passionate Charleston diner, you really should check out the CHS Menu subscription. It not only includes the weekly email newsletter written by Post & Courier food editor Parker Milner but also unlimited access to the paper’s digital Food & Dining section, invitations to free special events . . . and now a regular column written by me as well.

The plan is for me to contribute one column each month, which will arrive in subscribers’ inboxes on a Thursday. As for the topics and themes, those are pretty open ended, but I plan to use the forum to ruminate on some of the larger dining trends and patterns I’m seeing as I eat my away around Charleston and elsewhere in the Carolinas (and beyond.)

Want a taste of what to expect? You can access my inaugural column online here. And, you can check out a few preview versions of Parker’s weekly pieces at the CHS Menu landing page.

In my first column, I discuss Vivian Howard’s recent op-ed in the New York Times in which she reflects on her decision to shutter her Kinston, North Carolina, restaurant The Chef & the Farmer as well as the state of the restaurant industry in general. I noticed something curious about the headlines to that piece (and I do mean headlines, plural.) I didn’t have room to address it in the newsletter column, but you can read it here on RobertFMoss.com.
