New Reviews: Husk and Vern’s

In the past month I’ve published two new restaurant reviews, one of a long-running Charleston destination restaurant (Husk) and the other of a much-talked-about new kid on the block, Vern’s.
Their appearing back to back was pretty much a coincidence, but it was fortuitous timing. It let me reflect on the restaurant that, more than any other, defined the period when Charleston really broke out as an international dining destination and juxtapose it with a restaurant that, in my opinion at least, is defining what fine dining in Charleston is today.
More than anything, it underscores that dining scenes are never static. New trends come and then they go, what seems exciting and daring one decade can seem, well, a little behind the times in the next.
